Frequently Asked Questions
What is a contactless card?
A contactless card allows you to make fast, convenient, and secure payments by simply holding the card near a contactless-enabled payment terminal.
How does the card work?
The card uses a technology called Near-Field Communication (NFC) to enable payments without physical contact. A microchip and antenna are embedded within your card to transmit card data when used at contactless-enabled terminals.
Does my contactless card have the same features as my previous card?
Yes! You can still do everything you’re able to do with a traditional card, such as adding a tip, getting cash back, and more.
Is my contactless card like using my smartphone for payments?
Yes. Just like Apple Pay® and Google Pay™ on your smartphone, contactless payments utilize NFC (Near-Field Communication) technology to complete the transaction.
How do I use my contactless card?
During checkout, simply hold the card 1-2 inches away from the contactless symbol on the terminal until you hear a beep or see a green light.
Where can I use my contactless card?
You card will work wherever you see the contactless symbol at checkout. Millions of merchants around the world accept contactless payments, including 8 out of 10 of the top retailers.
Will my contactless card work at ATM’s?
Yes! Your card will work at any contactless-enabled ATMs. Just look for the contactless symbol. If the ATM is not contactless enabled simply use your card as usual to complete your ATM transactions.
What happens if the merchant doesn’t accept contactless cards?
If you don't see the contactless symbol, just insert, or swipe your card as usual.
Do I need a PIN for contactless transactions?
You may be required to enter a PIN for ATM transactions and some debit card purchases.
Do I have to physically tap my card on the checkout terminal?
No. However, your card should be within 1-2 inches of the contactless symbol. Be sure to hold your contactless card to the terminal for 1-2 seconds to ensure your payment is successfully completed.
Are contactless cards safe?
Yes. Contactless cards are very safe. Just as with a traditional chip card, each transaction generates a random, one-time code. This code can’t be reused by fraudsters.
Will my contactless card allow people to track my location?
No. The technology on your card is restricted to transmitting payment data when making a purchase.
